First Speleothem Fluid Inclusion Meeting
09.02. - 11.02.2027 in Basel, Switzerland

Speleothem Fluid Inclusions

Speleothems contain fluid inclusions that serve as natural repositories of cave drip water and precipitation, respectively. This water is retained within the speleothem calcite matrix and well preserved from post-depositional alterations. The extraction of the water and the analysis of its hydrogen and oxygen isotopic composition provide direct information about the hydrological cycle in the recent and distant past. Furthermore, speleothem fluid inclusions can also be used for reconstructing paleotemperatures.

The First Speleothem Fluid inclusion Meeting at the Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Basel, will bring researchers together to present and discuss their speleothem fluid inclusion records, as well as methodological advances in water isotope measurements and nucleation-assisted microthermometry. The meeting will also investigate the integration of speleothem-derived water isotope data with other climate archives and simulations. Thus, we also encourage contribution from researchers from other research areas who combine speleothem fluid inclusion data with other paleoproxy records and simulations. Research will be presented through talks and posters.

We cordially invite you to participate in the First Speleothem Fluid Inclusion Meeting in Basel, Switzerland.
